Our Pastor

Harold Vandeveer was born and grew up in Newport News, Virginia. Harold was baptized and confirmed at St Paul's Church in Newport News. His father was a police officer in Newport News for 25 years and his mother worked for NASA and then Langley Research Center. Both parents instilled a strong work ethic in him during his youth. Harold married Ferol Friedenberg in 1978. Harold and Ferol have two grown sons, H. George Jr., and Jon David. Harold and Ferol relocated from Newport News, Va. to Charlotte, N.C. in the fall of 1981. In 1982 Harold and Ferol started attending St. Christopher's Church in Charlotte, N.C. In 1982, Harold went to a "Life in the Spirit" weekend where he acknowledged Jesus as Lord and encountered the Living God. This was a life changing event for Harold and Ferol.


Harold attended the University of North Carolina in Charlotte and earned a BS in Accounting in 1988. Harold has worked in industry for over 20 years as a Financial Controller for various companies. In 2008, Harold perceived a renewed calling to ordained ministry and began the discernment process to move forward. In December 2011, Harold was ordained as a Deacon in Anglican Diocese of the Carolinas. During 2012, Harold went through the discernment and evaluation process to become a Church Planter. In September 2012, Harold was approved as a Church Planter in the Anglican Diocese of the Carolinas. In Janury of 2013, Harold began gathering friends to start planting Saint Barnabas in Ft Mill, South Carolina. The Church Plant began meeting every two weeks in late February.


Harold was ordained as a presbyter on August 14th, 2013 by the Right Reverend Steve Wood, Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of the Carolinas. Harold has a history of different ministries over the years. He served on the Board of Directors for The Branches of the Vine in the position of President for 3 years. He has traveled in groups for short term mission trips to Ghana, West Africa, and the Middle East. In Ghana, Harold has been active in prayer and healing ministries, prison ministry, and medical ministry. Harold has gone to Ghana 8 of the last 11 years and has made a number of close friends living in Ghana through shared ministry together. Other ministries he has been active in include Bible studies in Mecklenburg County Jail, York County Jail, Healing prayer ministry, and assisting in Bible Studies with Holy Communion at the Charlotte Men's Shelter.


Harold is honored to be the Rector of Saint Barnabas Anglican Church. He is excited that he can proclaim the Good News of Jesus in a church that affirms the truth of the Gospel- the newly formed Anglican Church of North America. He is also expectant that God will bless this new congregation in this new denomination, knowing that God, who loves us, is faithful. Harold and Ferol live in Ft. Mill, S.C.
